October Book Haul + REVIEW: The House by Christina Lauren

by - 3:29 PM

Hi everyone! I finally filmed a new video. It’s just some books I’ve bought in the past few weeks! Enjoy.

“He kissed her with his smiling mouth. He didn’t need normal. He didn’t even know normal, and she’d never seemed to want it anyway.”

Back of the book blurb:

He’s always dressed in black, his head down, and shaggy black hair falls into his eyes. But when Gavin looks up at Delilah, his dark eyes shadowed with bluish circles seem to flicker to life.
Her lifelong fascination with him has been a mixture of longing and bearlike protectiveness, because he lives in that house, the one at the edge of town. Spooky and maybe haunted. Delilah thinks it might be something worse than haunted.
Gavin tells Delilah he’s hers—completely—but whatever lives with him inside that house disagrees.

Looking for a book that reminds you of that animated movie “Monster House,” but it’s ten times more twisted and ten times more romantic? The House is just what you’re looking for, then!

I knew Christina and Lauren were masters of new adult/adult fiction, but how was I supposed to know they were hiding mastery of young adult horror romance up their sleeves as well? That’s just not fair. You have to pick something; you can’t BE GOOD AT EVERYTHING!

Honestly, I love the movie “Monster House” so fucking much. It’s such an original and cute movie, so as soon as I started The House and it reminded me of “Monster House” I was instantly hooked. The plot is so much more than you would expect; it’s so well developed, intriguing, and fast-paced, especially as you get closer to the end of the book. And true to Christina Lauren nature, they weaved an epic romance into this bone-rattling (lolol) novel and pulled it off with flying colors.

I absolutely am obsessed with Delilah. I love the fact that she is fascinated with gore and she’s totally kick-ass and she referenced Buffy the Vampire Slayer towards the end of the novel, which just solidified my love for her.

Gavin is my new dark daddy-long-legs. I love the contrast between how short Delilah is and how tall Gavin is. I think that is so precious having one person in the relationship super tall and the other one being super short. Gavin was so incredibly beautiful.

Their romance was so much fun to read. Amidst all of the crazy shit that was happening, these two got to meet their soul mates and fall in love and experience the glory of that love. Their love scenes were extremely intense and breathtaking, which isn’t new for Christina Lauren. They write incredibly poignant and beautiful love scenes.

I would absolutely KILL for this to be made into a movie. Hollywood could do SO much with it and make it completely terrifying. I also think one of the things that makes this book so scary is because it’s so true to home… okay bad use of the word “home” but whatever. House is basically an overprotective parent or jealous boy/girlfriend. And it is kind of a metaphor for what that jealousy/overprotectiveness can do to someone and to the ones you love. I might be reading a little too deep into it, but that is kind of terrifying.

PLEASE PICK UP THIS BOOK, especially because Halloween is rapidly approaching and don’t you want to be scared out of your mind?!

Happy (Scary) Reading!

Love,

The Cosmic Reader
