Hello everyone! Welcome back to another Monday Mania. Are you sick of me yet? I would be. Just kidding, I love myself.

I love knowing what books people have bought recently because it gives me ideas for what I want to read, you know? So, I figured I’d share some books that I’ve purchased recently. Make sure to let me know of some books you’ve bought recently that you’re super excited about!

Also, in tradition of being spooky, I figured I’d also share some of my favorite horror movies. There’s just something so fun and exciting about watching a horror movie alone, in the dark, so you can, ya know, not feel alone anymore. It seems like after watching a scary movie, you can literally feel someone watching you, plotting your murder. So, yeah! I’ll share some of my favorites and if you have any recommendations, please let me know!

Make sure to come back tomorrow and check out my review of Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum!

  1. Stepbrother Dearest by Penelope Ward – Smutty smut, what else can I say? Nothing better than reading about two people fucking. The taboo aspect of it just heightens all of your senses.
  2. Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit by Jaye Robin Brown – Absolutely loved No Place to Fall, so I’m especially intrigued with this one. Also, that cover! Hell yes.
  3. Under the Lights by Abbi Glines – Just read Until Friday Night last month and absolutely loved it. Abbi Glines is an auto-buy author for me! Her books are the perfect amount of steam, angst, and fun!

  1. Hexed by Michelle Krys – Talked about this in my Halloween TBR post. I’m very excited to read something that I normally wouldn’t read. It’s rare that I venture outside of my YA/NA romance genre. But when I do, I’m usually pleased.
  2. Simple Perfection by Abbi Glines – Again, Ms. Glines! I’ve read all of her Sea Breeze series and I’m finally making my way through her Rosemary Beach series. They’re so good!
  3. Broken Juliet by Leisa Rayven – Ahh, the first book, Bad Romeo, was torture because it was such a huge build-up to what happens between the protagonists and then it ends in a cliffhanger, OF COURSE, and so obviously I just had to buy the sequel. Also, there’s a third book coming out, or it’s already out, and I’m just like… more please.

There is my book haul! Hopefully these books last me until October, because I swear to god, I need to go on a book-buying ban. I am perpetually broke.

Next, let’s dive into some of my favorite horror movies!

  1. Scream – A classic in the horror genre. It’s a very meta movie, very aware of itself and the typical horror tropes while also giving the viewer jump scares and an all around satisfying movie experience. I’ve loved these films forever.
  2. The Strangers – One of the most terrifying movies I’ve ever seen. It scares the absolute shit out of me every single time I watch it. It’s a home invasion movie, where three people in masks terrorize a couple whose relationship is kind of on the rocks. The ending will probably piss you off and scare you simultaneously. I love it!
  3. The Conjuring (and its sequel) – This horror movie is honestly already a classic. It’s so well-written and just completely scary. Do not watch this alone!

  1. Disturbia – Partly inspired by Hitchcock’s Rear Window, Disturbia just proves that everyone has a life that no one knows about. Admittedly, the first half of this movie drags! But, once it picks up, shit starts going down. Disturbia has always been a favorite of mine. It’s fun to watch, fun to fantasize about what your neighbors are doing—I mean, come on! Don’t you all wish you could have such exciting neighbors, you know, minus almost getting murdered?
  2. The Purge (and its two sequels) – The Purge is kind of an anomaly. It came out in a time where home invasion horror flicks were not doing well at all at the box office. Paranormal and possession films were what was scaring Americans at the time and they still are, yet The Purge did great at the box office and it continued to do great with its two sequels. And with Election Year coming out during election year, well, it hit a little too close to home. Either way, these films will keep you on the edge of your seat and also terrify you because the idea doesn’t seem too far-fetched…
  3. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003 remake) – Okay, so I might just love this one because I love Jessica Biel in it, but it’s still a damn good movie and that fucking truck scene with the cop makes me literally scream out loud. Leatherface is honestly one of the most terrifying horror villians ever. This entire movie just creeps me the fuck out and I have to keep all the lights on the house after I watch it.

So, do any of you like these horror movies?! What’re your favorites?!

Happy Reading & Watching!
Love,
The Wandereader
