MONDAY MANIA: Songs I Listen to While Reading

Okay, so I cannot be the only one who enjoys listening to music while reading, right? It’s actually a recent discovery of mine that I really enjoy. It blocks out outside sounds that can disrupt you from really falling into a good book. Sometimes it can even enhance how you feel during certain scenes depending on the tone of the music. I especially love sad instrumental music when I’m reading.

Some days I enjoy instrumental music while I’m reading and some days I enjoy music that has lyrics but they aren’t overbearing. So, here I am today to give the people what they want: music I listen to while I’m reading.

            Enjoy!

I’d like to apologize for no review last week and there probably won’t be a review tomorrow, either. I’ve been in a huge reading slump recently. Nothing has been catching my attention, so I’ve taken a break from reading—just a couple days—but that has meant that I haven’t read any books that I want to review. Hopefully I can get a new review up next week!

I’ll do instrumental songs first as most people can’t read and listen to music that has lyrics at the same time. And I’m not trying to insult anyone’s intelligence—it’s just fact that humans aren’t capable of multitasking, at least not very well, which is why instrumental songs are perfect for reading; it’s background noise.

INSTRUMENTAL:

  1. Arrival of the Birds & The Transformation by The Cinematic Orchestra – Love this one so much. It gives me chills every time I hear it. I picture myself in a field, spinning around and around, my body electric with happiness when this song plays.
  2. Lux Aeterna (Clint Mansell cover) by Kate Chruscicka – Ugh, this song just always makes me feel when I hear it.
  3. Anguish of Heartache by NKOHA – Most of the songs on this list are from various playlists I’ve listened to on 8Tracks, but this one is from Vine. It’s from an anime I believe. It’s creepy and hazy and I love it.
  4. Dumbledore’s Farewell by Nicholas Hooper – Okay, if the title doesn’t get you interested and/or sad, well, that sucks for you booboo.
  5. Oltremare by Ludivico Einaudi – Enchanting and elegant, this one is amazing while reading because it gets you in the feels.
  6. Together Again by Paolo Vivaldi – I honestly don’t know what to say about most of these. Should I just shut up?
  7. Hurt by Lucas King – I can’t help it that I like to listen to sad instrumental music…
  8. Downstream by Two Steps From Hell – This one is intense and can be a little overbearing but if you have intense scenes, it works.
  9. The Grey Lady by Alexandre Desplat – This one is from Harry Potter so you know that shit is good.
  10. I Think of You All the Time by Rachel Portman – All I can say is that this one has brought many tears…
  11. Just A Fragment of You by Anthony Gonzalez and Brian Reitzell – A lovely conlusion to our instrumental list, even though it has lyrics.

MUSIC WITH LYRICS:

  1. Riding Solo (Hippie Sabotage Remix) by Njomza – This one is a favorite, especially while reading romances where the couple breaks up and they have to be strong without each other.
  2. Dreams (Gigamesh Edit) by Fleetwood Mac – Trippy and fast-paced, this edit to a classic is a super fun addition to any reading playlist.
  3. Broken by Lund – Again, this is a good one while reading all-consuming romances.
  4. Marathon Man by Bear Hands – Love this one so much. There’s just something about it.
  5. Something to Believe In by Young the Giant – Just listen to it. You’ll love it.
  6. Your Sweet Touch by Bahamas – God, this one makes me melt.
  7. Mood Ring by Britney Spears – A slow jam from Britney’s newest album really sets a sexy tone.
  8. Somebody Else by The 1975 – This one is great for reading just because it’s not overbearing and isn’t in your face. It’s great.
  9. The Less I Know the Better by Tame Impala – Again, the music kind of overwhelms the lyrics so you’re not distracted.
  10. What a Feeling by One Direction – Okay, this one might be weird for a reading playlist but it goes hard and I can’t get enough.
  11. Starboy by The Weeknd – This sexy new song from The Weeknd will keep you entertained for days.
  12. Drowning by BANKS – This one is perfect for those romances where their ex is a fucking douchecanoe.
  13. Mind Games by BANKS – Last but not least is a song from BANKS’ newest album The Altar. This one is so perfect. I cannot stop listening.

Hope this list helps anyone! What’re some of your favorite songs to listen to while reading or do you not listen to anything?

Happy Reading (and listening!)
 Love,
The Wandereader
