REVIEW: Lake + Manning by Jessica Hawkins

“You know I’ll always move the stars for you if need be. Whatever it takes.”

Back of the book blurb:

Manning and I have what happily-ever-after is made of . . .A home he built us on the unshakeable foundation we fought for.A life of laughter carved out of heartache and betrayal.A love story to stand the test of time.

But between a trust that can’t be broken, joy that can’t be bridled, and passion that would scorch the sun, the empty spaces are becoming more and more difficult to ignore . . .Fears that keep Manning up at night as he slips from our bed.Our complicated relationship with a man he respects and one I don't know how to forgive. And a sprawling, beautiful home with one small room I'm afraid I'll never be able to fill.

Manning and I have what happily-ever-after is made of . . . But I'll beg the heavens for just one thing more.

My rating:

Obviously, I’m obsessed with Jessica Hawkins and Lake and Manning. I read the first three books in this love saga so fucking fast. I let them chew me up and spit me out. This four-book series is one of the best series that I have ever read. Lake and Manning are incredible. Jessica Hawkins is just as incredible. Her writing is sweet, sweet torture. I was so happy to know that there would be a fourth book in the series.

“’Let’s make love here every night, he murmured.’
‘Life is not that good,’ I said. ‘It can’t be.’
‘It can. It is.’”

I was scared for Lake + Manning. The first three books put me through the fucking wringer. So, I was happy to realize that this novel was more sugary sweet with a little dash of angst instead of a goddamn overdose of sadness and rip my heart out. Like I said, there’s still a dash of angst, for all you torture lovers. It was just really nice to be able to witness Lake and Manning finally having a life together after the hell they went through to try and find each other.

“’You’re such a romantic.’
‘Only for you,’ he said. ‘but that’s no surprise to anyone.’”

Ugh. SO ROMANTIC. Lake + Manning will have your heart bursting at the seams. Like I said before, it’s so nice to see Lake and Manning be happy together. Of course, it’s not that easy, as it never is for these two. It seems as if this couple has everything they could ever ask for. Except something seems missing. And when that missing thing doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards for Lake and Manning, how will they navigate the future they once thought they would have?

The angst isn’t nearly as earth-shattering as the last three books, but it will still shake you to the core, because you’ll be terrified that after all this time, something else might happen. DAMN YOU JESSICA HAWKINS FOR ALWAYS SHATTERING OUR TRUST. Just kidding, girly, love you!!!

“’I think we moved our stars, Manning,’ I said. ‘Maybe now, we help rearrange someone else’s.’”

These characters deserve the world. They really do. I was very much happy with this ending to one of the most intense love stories that I have ever read. Please, fans of this series: pick this one up. You’ll be so satisfied. And anyone who has never read this series: DO IT. You’ll hate me at first, but trust me, by the end, you’ll be a sucker for Lake and Manning and their beautiful love.

Happy Reading!
